Department At A Glance

The department of zoology in one of the oldest departments of Govt. V. Y .T. P. G .Autonomous college. It started from the inception of the college in 1958 It has remained a landmark of excellence ever since. The department offers B.Sc. in Zoology, chemistry , botany Zoology, Biotech & chemistry Zoology, Anthropology and chemistry Zoology, Geology and chemistry Zoology , Biochemistry & chemistry combinations beside M.Sc in Zoology and biotechnology. The P.G courses started in the year 1965. Ph.D. programme in the area of biodiversity, toxicity, Environmental Biology, Fly Ash Toxicity, Histopathology and Reproductive Biology ,Endocrinology and Genetic has been carried out since the department become research centre in the year 1970 .

In  with its mission to promote on intellectual climate in this region, the department took the  initiative in the formation of the Zoological society Chhattisgarh which came into existence in 2015. The Department is also known for its high standards of research. 13 Doctorate degrees have been awarded so for. Besides providing work space for researches the department Houses a well – equipped lab and library with around 700 books. Research journals are available in the central library of the college. The department has undertaken minor and major research project's supported by funding agencies such as UGC & CG cost. It has also organized two UGC and CG cost funded national conferences... Several research papers have been published in various national and international journals by the faculty apart from publication of a book on Entomology by Late Dr. K.K. Verma who was an eminent scientist of international fame.

The department strives to promote all round development of the students through various academic and co- curricular activities.

The faculty goes beyond the conventional method of lecturing and make use of OHP & LCD and to make the classroom teaching more interactive. Students participate in group discussions to equip themselves with advanced knowledge and skills. Various activities like guest lectures, presentations, workshops, seminars , quiz programmers, skit presentation, poster competitions etc. are encouraged. To nurtures students to contribute to the society with commitment, awareness camps for the villagers, farmers and school students are organized with student participation.


Headed by Dr. Kanti Choubey who ably supported by a dedicated team, the department continues to strive explore and achieve.
