A Five-Day RUSA-Sponsored workshop on Yeast Genetics atthe Department of Biotechnology

TheDepartment of Biotechnology, Govt. V.Y.T. PG. Autonomous College, Durg,successfully organized a five-day Hands-On Workshop on “YeastGenetics”, sponsored by RUSA 2.0, from 6thto 10th October, 2025. Under the convenership of Dr.Shweta Pandey and with the support of Prof. A.K. Singh,Patron & Principal, the workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from 40students, 3 faculty members,and 2research scholars. The technical sessions were led by Dr.Shuvadeep Maity from BITS Pilani Hyderabad, along withtechnical experts Dr. K. Pradeep, Mr.K. Chaitanya, and Ms. Vaishali Kumar,who collectively delivered theory, demonstrations, and hands-on practicaltraining throughout the program.

Over the course of five days, participants learned key molecular techniquesincluding yeast culturing, growth curve analysis, DNA/RNA isolation,competent cell preparation, transformation procedures, and spore dissection.The hands-on structure of the workshop ensured that students not only observedbut also practiced each experiment with precision and scientific understanding.This training significantly enhanced the participants’ research attitude,technical confidence, and laboratory skills—preparing them for advancedacademic projects, internships, and future research opportunities. TheDepartment of Biotechnology expresses gratitude to RUSA 2.0 for itssupport and acknowledges the dedicated efforts of faculty, experts, andstudents in making the event a resounding success.
